District 2 Tournament - POOL PLAY - South Oldham "Green", South Oldham "Blue", North Oldham "A", North Oldham "B", Valley Sports, Grant County

Friday, 6/24/11  6 pm     South Oldham "Blue" 5, South Oldham "Green" 2        The South Oldham Blue team broke open a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth, plating three runs, two of which scored as a result of passed balls, Rob Stone's team hung on for a 5-2 victory.  The Green Machine managed just five hits, with Will Kueshner, Shaun Montgomery, Caleb Strunk, Bryce Barber, and Trevor Gurr all getting one base hit.  Zach Blinn had a nice sacrifice bunt that drove in a run for the Green team...

Saturday, 6/25/11 2 pm  South Oldham "Green" 7, North Oldham "A" 5 (7 innings)    The Green Machine rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring three in the fourth and two in the fifth to seize the lead.  But - just two outs from claiming the win - North's Joey Hackworth blasted a one-out, three-run homer that tied the game after six complete.  In the seventh, the Big Green responded quickly to get the win.  Will Kueshner hit a line drive to left field, and advanced all the way home on a double by Bryce Barber.  Moments later, Barber scored on a groundout by Trevor Gurr, and South led, 7-5.  It was then up to Bryce Barber (on the mound) and the South defense to win the game in the field...Barber struck out the leadoff batter, and the next two batters both fouled out to Shaun Montgomery at first to end the game.  Offensively, Kueshner had a monster game, going 3 for 4 with three runs.  Trevor Gurr was 1 for 4 with two RBIs...Shaun Montgomery was 1 for 1 and had a nice sacrifice bunt...    Caleb Strunk was 1 for 3 and scored twice...Stephen Mitchell had a breakout game, going 3 for 3 with an RBI.  On the mound, Elijah McMahon was pretty good - he gave up just two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings, while striking out four batters.  Trevor Gurr and Bryce Barber pitched in relief. 

Sunday, 6/26/11  4 pm North Oldham 11, South Oldham "Green" 7  Green rallied from a 5-2 deficit to take a 7-5 lead late, but couldn't hold on in an 11-7 loss.

Monday, 6/27/11  6 pm   South Oldham Green 5, Valley Sports 1 - Brendon Daunhauer pitched 5 1/3 innings in just 50 pitches, giving up just one run while striking out seven, and the SOLL Green Team exploded late against Valley Sports' top pitcher to grab a 5-1 win on the road.   With the game tied at 1 and two down in the home half of the fifth inning, Stephen Mitchell ignited a rally with a single and the Big Green plated four runs to grab the momentum.  Will Kueshner came on to the mound to get the final two outs of the game and gain the save.

Tuesday, 6/28/11  6 pm   South Oldham Green 15, Grant County 0 - Will Kueshner started and struck out five of the seven batters he faced in the first two innings, and Trevor Gurr struck out four over the final two innings as South won by run rule after just 3 1/2 innings.  The Big Green batted through its order more than twice in the first inning en route to a 14-0 lead and coasted to the victory.  Caleb Strunk went 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs; Shaun Montgomery drove in two runs, and Stephen Mitchell walked three times and scored all three times.  Elijah McMahon, Trevor Gurr, Bryce Barber, and Brendon Daunhauer each scored twice for South. 

South finishes 3-2 in pool play and qualifies for the tournament as the #4 seed.

TOURNAMENT AT NORTH OLDHAM:

Thursday, 6/30/11    6 pm     #4 seed South Oldham 7, #1 seed North Oldham "A" 1  -  South "Green" defeated the North Oldham "A" team for the second time this post-season, but this time no extra innings were necessary.  Starting pitcher Brendon Daunhauer pitched his second consecutive brilliant game for the Green team, going 4 2/3 innings and striking out 5, while walking one and allowing just two hits and one (unearned) run.  Will Kueshner and Elijah McMahon both pitched in relief.  Offensively, South outhit North, 6-2, and also took advantage of seven walks issued by the North pitchers.  Will finished two for three at the plate with a walk; Stephen Mitchell, Caleb Strunk, Elijah McMahon, and Brendon Daunhauer all also had hits.  Shaun Montgomery, Bo Schweitzer, and Bryce Barber didn't get any hits, but all three put bat to ball and all three had RBIs.    South scored in every inning except the first inning...
