In the first preseason game of the year, the Reds overcame a lack of practice time together to put together an impressive first outing. Despite having several practices called due to bad weather, having less than half the team available for practice during Spring Break, gaining a new player just ten minutes prior to the game, and having the use of the pitching machine just once for practice, the Reds gave a great team effort. Every Red got at least one base hit off the machine, and the squad hit a number of doubles as well. T.C. Falkner was a monster on defense at first base, putting out three Yankess on grounders in the first inning alone. T.C. later got a runner out at third. Joey Rice also forced a runner out at first base. Shaun Montgomery and Donovan Brady, the two youngest Reds, put together the best "throw and catch" play of the game in the third inning when Shaun fielded a ground ball at second and threw to Donovan, who made a great catch at first.
