Description:

A long layoff without any action had predictable - and disastrous - results for the Reds as the streaking Red Sox used a big first inning en route to a 21-13 victory.  The usually dependable Reds defense was able to generate just two outs - the they had produced in a game all season.  The Red Sox kept the pressure on the defense throughout, as they continuously drove long hits deep into the infield.  But it was the Sox defense that stole the show, retiring three of the first five Reds batters in the first inning, staking the Red Sox to a huge - and ultimately insurmountable - 7-0 lead after just one inning.  The Reds outfielders were quick to the ball and allowed just three extra-base hits for the Red Sox, but the Sox still batted 1.000 for the game.  Cooper Cantrell (3 for 3 with a double), Tyler Macon (three for three with a double), and Steven Brown (three for three with a triple) were particularly devastating at the plate.  The Reds were led by Donovan Brady who was three for three batting with a double and two RBIs.  Joey Rice and Kyle Blair also hit doubles for the Reds.
