Cardinals 8    Dodgers 3

Cardinal Pitchers:  Pearce 3, Willinger 3
Dodger Pitchers:   Spratt 4, Lawrence 2

Description:

The Cardinals rebounded from their first defeat of the season with a solid 8 – 3 win over a very good Dodger team.  Cardinal pitchers Evan Pearce and Andrew Willinger combined to limit the Dodgers to only 1 hit, striking out 13 Dodgers.  The Dodgers also received good pitching from Jesse Spratt and Zach Lawrence.  They combined to strike out 12 Cardinals.

The Cardinal offense was led by Pearce who went 3 for 3 plus a walk.  One of his hits was a rocket to left center field for a double.  Willinger also had a long double to left, he with 2 hits along with Michael Taylor (2 Hits), Nathan Frantz (1), and Stephen Jones (1) also had hits for the Cardinals.

The Dodgers, taking advantage of some walks, along with some heads up base running were able to score Lawrence, Nathan Ayers, and Zack Wagner. They could have scored more runs because of the walks and some uncharacteristically poor defense. However Pearce, who had his game of the year, was also superb behind the plate.  He was involved, with 2 assists and a put out, in 3 outs at the plate.  Without those outs the game would have been much closer.
