Game Date: 5/8/04 Mariner Pitchers: Description: The White Sox got home runs from Nathan Gendron and Ben Austin that fueled a 5-4 lead after one inning, but the Sox simply committed too many errors in the field to hold the lead. The Mariners built leads of 7-5 after two innings and 12-9 after three before taking a 14-9 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. With time running out, the White Sox knew they had to score the maximum number of runs possible in the fourth in order to force a tie, and they nearly did. A leadoff walk by Colin Ploch started a parade of White Sox around the bases. When Kevin Montgomery scored from third, the lead was just one at 14-13 and there was just one out. But the Mariners got the next two batters out to preserve the victory. |
