Game Date: 13 May 2004 Red Sox Pitchers: Ben Peterson 2 innings; Matt Rowe 4 innings
Description: This was another classic Red Sox-Dodger confrontation. The Dodgers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on several hits off of Red Sox pitcher Ben Peterson. The Sox came back in the bottom half of the inning by scoring 2 runs on hits by Jake Karlen and Brandon Funk. Ben Peterson then maintained his composure after an almost disastrous 1st inning by shutting down the Dodgers with some help from his defense. The Red Sox tied the score in their half of the inning with hits by Clayton Gerlach and Andrew McDonald. Matt Rowe then came on in relief for the last 4 innings allowing only one more Dodger run on 5 strikeouts and giving up 3 hits. The Red Sox then capitalized and broke the game open on hits by Ben Peterson and Brandon Funk and an inside the park home run by Matt Rowe to clear the bases. The Red Sox then added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to put the game out of reach. The Red Sox started out of the gates slow like Smarty Jones but brought the heat on in the end to preserve a 10-4 victory over an always tough Dodger team |
